また新たにスタートした春セメスター。母国、故郷に帰省した学生。別府に留まりアルバイト、勉強、趣味に集中した学生。そんな APU 生誰しもが久しぶりに APU に来て気づくのが新たな顔ぶれであろう。そう、また今セメスターも多くの交換留学生が APU に訪れている。その数は交換留学生71人と私費留学生14人あわせて85人におよび17カ国50協定大学から来た多種多様な学生である。そんな学生とすでに友達になった方も多いのではないだろうか。

Where is the ROOF?

For those who went back to their home countries, or did not visit APU during the vacation, the new garden in front of the bus stop should have come as a surprise. Apart from that, four other benches were constructed on the left of cafeteria, entrance of F building, left of library and besides BII building. However, looking at the top of the benches, a lot of students ask the same question, ’ where is the roof ’?

5 22 日(土)、大分合同新聞の紙面 4 ページに渡って、「 APU 生が書いた APU の記事」が掲載される。新聞を発行する上で必要となる、記者・営業・デザイン全ての工程を約 30 人の APU 生が携わり、作り上げてきたものだ。

How (not) to drop the bomb

The Obama administration recently has just restarted the process toward nuclear warheads reduction in the world. Following his speech last year in Prague, Obama tried to put his commitment against the threat of nuclear weapons into action by organizing the Nuclear Security Summit last week. With the introduction of New START-stands for Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty-between the US and Russia, the number of nuclear warheads will be gradually reduced to 1,550, which is about two-thirds from the original START treaty.

2010 Plans with APU Circles

In 2009 we saw the great contribution of different circles to enrich diversity and opportunities in various fields such as social service, volunteer activities, cultural exchanges, sports and interaction. Recognizing the important roles that these circles play to the betterment of APU life and real life experiences, and at the same time, realizing the problems that students face in knowing and participating in circle activities; the APU Times decided to delicate a whole page for circle introduction and more importantly to inform their different activities. The APU Times would like to cooperate with all the circles to promote their activities through newspaper while promoting the right to information of APU students.

Hello friends,

This is Yuma Tsuda. I am the present Library Assistant (LA) Leader.

Well, I became the leader in the October last semester. Things have changed a lot from the time I joined the LA team. I used to take it as just a part-time job available in the campus before. However, after I became the leader, I tried to bring upon some changes in the working pattern and became serious about the job itself. As a matter of fact, I am enjoying this job a lot now. It is still getting better that before. And people take me as a kind person and I want to work with them as a friend rather than being strict.

藤棚―屋根はどこに…。―

2・3月の長期休暇のあいだ帰省していた学生は、バス停の前に新たに設置された、「 APU ガーデン」を見て驚いたことだろう。この「 APU ガーデン」とは別に、「藤棚とベンチ」も、大学構内に4か所、設置された。(カフェテリア横、 F 棟前、ライブラリー横、 B Ⅱ棟横)しかし、藤のツルをはわせて覆っているはずの藤棚の屋根は、どこにも見当たらない。藤棚を見上げ、困惑している学生もしばしば見られる。

「生徒自治組織を作ろう。」そのための会議が 2 3 日に開催された。主催は「 student voice

で参加団体は「 OASIS 」、「 SOSC 」、「公認団体会議」そしてオフィスから二名が招かれた。

議題は前述した通り「生徒自治組織」に関してであり、 2 時間超に渡る熱い議論が繰り広げられた。

オーストラリアの観光名所といえば、まずエアーズロックを考えませんか? しかし、2011年10月以降先住民族アボリジニの権利をめぐって、岩の上に登れなくなります。エアーズロックとはウルル・カタジュタ国立公園にある 世界遺産であり、大地のヘソと呼ばれる世界最大の一枚岩 エアーズ・ロック こと、別名ウルルである。

SMOKING SHELTER: PEEPING THROUGH MIRROR

Purpose of Research:

It was back in September 2008 when APU started regulating the smoking area, creating the so called ‘smoking shelter’ as the only place where smokers could smoke. It has been more than one year already since this concept was implemented in APU. In this report, The APU Times along with the help of Student Voice and Administration would like to access the effectiveness and concerns of students and finally make some suggestions on how to move forward.

Fire Alarm Steals the Limelight: Taiwan culture week – 2010

Friday, 15 January 2010. Taiwan culture week grand performance was held at the APU millennium hall and was witnessed by some 700 audience. It portrayed a range of Taiwanese regional dances and music along with different wedding styles. Sponsored by the Nature Care Australia, the organizers left no stones unturned to aggrandize this event. Divided into six parts, it included fashion show, different wedding styles, video and a beautiful song to add the icing to the cake.
