Q1. When did you join APU and what were the reasons for you to join this particular University in Japan?

29-106

I joined APU in April last year, being attracted primarily by its multicultural character, by which I believe it stands out from other ordinary Japanese universities.

Q2. Can we know something more about you and your professional journey sir?

My career to date has been mainly in academia; I did my undergraduate study in Tokyo, Master’s in Washington DC, and PhD in London.

Q3. What are the factors that you believe to be most essential to shape ones career?

Interest, commitment and luck combine with one another to produce a certain direction in one’s career, I guess (At least in mine!).

Q4. What do you think should APU do in order to succeed further both in academics and other disciplines of learning?

I think APU should strive to adhere to the highest standard of international scholarship and professionalism.

Q5. What are your future plans ahead of your professional career here in APU?

I like this job and want to pursue a lifetime of teaching and research in international affairs, but nobody knows what happens in the future. Luck has been a factor and would be in my life, and indeed I am excited about this uncertainty!

Q6. What is the best thing about APU to you and what is the important thing that you see needs further improvements?

The best thing about APU, in my view, is this environment that Japanese and international students interact with each other, with such an intensity, and inside and outside the classroom. I hope students try to take full advantage of it.

Q7. What is your message to the staff and the students of APU?

Let us enjoy the time we spend at APU!   “Life is very short”

Sharad, you are true that Professor IJI graduated from Hohns Hopkins university. But, I think it is rather in the field of International Relations that the university is recognized more in the world than for its medical programs.

True John Hopkins University is recognized for International Relations.

But it's medical institution called Johns Hopkins School of Medicine (JHUSOM), ranks second only to Harvard University:

Also, John Hopkins Hospital ranks no 1 for eighteenth year in a row.
