Student of the Month: Ton Diep Nhat Trang

The news that an APU student was crowned Miss Beppu has drawn attention for weeks.  All APU students feel honored and curious to know about the very student. Fire Alarm Steals the Limelight: Taiwan culture week – 2010

Friday, 15 January 2010. Taiwan culture week grand performance was held at the APU millennium hall and was witnessed by some 700 audience. It portrayed a range of Taiwanese regional dances and music along with different wedding styles. Sponsored by the Nature Care Australia, the organizers left no stones unturned to aggrandize this event. Divided into six parts, it included fashion show, different wedding styles, video and a beautiful song to add the icing to the cake.

In 2009 we saw the great contribution of different circles to enrich diversity and opportunities in various fields such as social service, volunteer activities, cultural exchanges, sports and interaction. Recognizing the important roles that these circles play to the betterment of APU life and real life experiences, and at the same time, realizing the problems that students face in knowing and participating in circle activities; the APU Times decided to delicate a whole page for circle introduction and more importantly to inform their different activities. The APU Times would like to cooperate with all the circles to promote their activities through newspaper while promoting the right to information of APU students. International Bureau OASIS

2009 Main Activities

From 2009 Fall Semester, we decided to change into International Bureau OASIS as a step closer to our vision of establishing Student Council. As a student organization mainly supporting International Students, we focused on the 3 following events this semester.

ü  June 2009: APU Amazing Race where students interacted through games and quizzes about APU

ü  September 2009: Idea Exchange with APU offices where we reported them the summary of students` opinion on circles, local exchanges and APU offices` policies from the 2nd International Conference in January 2009. There we also suggested the ways for improvement.

ü  October 2009: Mini Pavilion so-called “Feel the WORLD from APU” for APU 10th Anniversary at Tenkusai.

Besides those we also supported the exchange party between APU international Students and working people in Beppu. Moreover, in order to introduce our activities to APU students, we have been publishing an information magazine so-called OASISmile

2010 Goals

ü  Continue collecting students` opinions

ü  Fulfill  students` ideas

ü  Cooperate with the local to carry out projects to improve bigger and bigger problems.

2009 Main Activities

Practicing Tea Ceremony in APU multicultural environment, we not only learn about Japanese heart and thinking but also enjoy international interaction through the art of Tea Ceremony.

ü  January 2009: for graduates in March on campus

ü  March 2009: at APU Graduation Ceremony in B-com Plaza

ü   July 2009: Pikapika for APU newcomers and Tanapata for all APU students on campus

ü  August 2009: with Ritsumeikan University in Hiroshima to promote world peace.

ü  October 2009: at Tenkusai for all students and visitors

December 2009: for Christmas

2010 Goals

ü  Attract more and more students to join Tea Ceremony, especially Japanese 1st year students

ü  Plan to conduct Tea Ceremony Cross-university and international exchanges

ü  Conduct events for APU Students to enjoy Tea Ceremony more
