THE APU TIMES

Hello friends,

This is Yuma Tsuda. I am the present Library Assistant (LA) Leader.

The APU Times has enthused leap and bounds within the span of three years of short history. Established in 2007 by a few visionary who advocated for the right to information of students, it established itself as a true university newspaper. Despite the economic and human resources problems, it rose to become one of the top rated non premiere organizations of APU.

Exactly two days after entering the year of 2010, APU culture and art circle 'Yosshakoi' participated in a small New Year performance in Jasco mall, Oita. Despite only consisted of thirteen members due to the event being held in the middle of winter holiday, Yosshakoi still showed an energetic but elegant performance.

On 23^rd Dec 2009, about 45 students from APU participated in a cheerleading exchange program. This was for the American Football match between the teams of Ritsumeikan University, PANTHERS and Kansei Gakuin University, FIGHTERS in Osaka. Ritsumeikan University has been participating in this match every year. But this year proved to be unlucky for the Panthers as they had to lose the match by 7-31.

　先日、本校では“Stand Up Take Action”というイベントが開催された。このイベントは、「ミレニアム・キャンペーン(MC)」と「グローバルな貧困根絶運動（GCAP）」のパートナーシップの下に実施されている。「貧困問題の解消」と「ミレニアム開発目標（世界189ヵ国のリーダーたちが「2015 年までに世界の貧困を半減すること」などを約束した）の達成」のために世界中で同時に行動を起こすことを呼びかけるキャンペーンである。貧困問題解決のために立ち上がった写真を撮影し、その参加人数をカウントした上で、ギネス記録に登録する。ギネスに名を残すことで世界の注目を集め、世界の貧困をなくすという強い声を各国のリーダーへ届けることが目的である。４回目を迎える今年は、ギネス記録を更新し世界中で1億7304万5325人がスタンドアップした。

「APUらしさ」。私がそれを一番実感しているのがこのサークル活動での時間である。今回、私の所属している「The APU Times」という新聞制作のサークルについて紹介したい。APUに入って３年目に突入しようとしていた今年の春、ネパール人の友人に「APU Timesに入らない？！」と誘われた。しかし、今年は３回生だから忙しいし、メンバーはほとんど国際学生で、ミーティングはほとんど英語だと思うと、入る気になれなかった。家に帰って自分が２年間APUでしてきたことは何だろうと振り返った。もしかしてこれはチャンスかもしれない。もっとたくさん国際学生の友達を作るいいキッカケかもしれない！！
